Love Begets

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1
Love Begets Book Cover

Have you ever wondered what the Trinity—Father, Son and Spirit—were doing in eternity past? Before the galaxies, before the earthworms, before the giraffes, what was the triune God doing? C. S. Lewis would say, “In Christianity, God is not a static thing—not even a person—but a dynamic, pulsating activity, a life, almost a kind of drama. Almost, if you will not think me irreverent, a kind of dance.” In other words, God—the three persons—danced around each other in self-donating, loving relationships. God lacked nothing. Within the Trinity was perfect love, goodness, relationship, and joy. So, why did God make us?

love gives

Love has a tendency to give. Boy meets girl, they start a relationship. That relationship begets a marriage.

Families grow and so on. The overflow of the triune’s love gives creation. And, at the culmination of all of creation, sitting at the top above the moon and sun, the good Niagara Falls, the good stegosaurus, was the best of all of God’s creation: humanity. Out of the goodness of the triune relationship, God made humans in his image.

He created male and female to have dominion and to rule over all of creation. We had perfect fellowship with God, and we enjoyed the figs from the trees, patting the lion on the head, and the coolness of the river on our bare feet as we walked through Eden. We also enjoyed each other. Adam and Eve, our first parents, lived without anxiety, despair, jealousy, hatred, and fear. God made the world and everything in it, and it was good.

gospel starts here

When we think about the gospel, we should train our minds to go back to the very beginning. The gospel begins with God, then humanity, then sin. We tend to bypass the first two on a race to get to the bad news. Yet, the gospel is good news. We celebrate that God created out of love, not need. We celebrate that God created out of goodness, not loneliness. We celebrate that God created out of joy, not boredom. And, we celebrate that we bear God’s image. Humanity—though separate from God, since he is creator and we are creation—still maintains the ability to do God-like things: create, love, divest of power, dance, commune with others, and so forth. Humans, in a partnership with God, rule, reign, and seek the good of the world around us. In the fabric of our humanity, God infused us with the ability to do beautiful, redemptive, and meaningful things.

We celebrate that God created out of love, not need. We celebrate that God created out of goodness, not loneliness. We celebrate that God created out of joy, not boredom. And, we celebrate that we bear God’s image.

The next time you think about the gospel or share it with someone, put on your dancing shoes and consider the Trinity orbiting in self-donating loving relationship. The gospel starts with God, and so should we.

It makes me realize That God loves me. He is for me. He delights over me. He created us so that we could fulfill His works on earth. He created us to love Him, others and care for His creation.

It is so easy to be overly critical of every aspect of our being from what we do to body image …this makes me stop and realize how much God loves me just as I am. I try to reflect God’s image in how I care for and interact with others but I am not very good about expressing and sharing the Gospel with others as I should be. Hopefully thru this study I will get better!

This gives me Joy & Hope.
Yo know also that he loves me regardless what the world shows me or what I think of myself.
It gives me encouragement/ to Love myself :))

It is not easy in my daily grind to sustain a deep rest in Gods peace or to linger in that warm bright feeling of pure bliss I get when I truly feel His presence. It is so humbling and frankly a bit emotional for me when I sit and contemplate that God did not need me/us. That He knew not only that we would turn from Him but that He himself would would even suffer through this process of us fallen and redeemed, and yet He did it anyway! Despite the cost He poured out His own love for me/us to be like Him, to reflect His glory into creation and ultimately dwell with Him for eternity. I feel a joyful sense of duty in choosing daily to try and keep in check my tendency to build personal internal earthly dams (which I imagine to be my idols and sin) so that His love can freely flow through me. Ironically in truth that choice is actually submission, as I am unable to do it alone without Him. I feel strengthened, motivated and filled knowing I have a purpose here, His purpose! Great questions, great reminders thank you!

God wants me/us to do beautiful, redemptive and meaningful things with my/our lives. Our abilities to create, love , to commune with other people and with God; these are abilities He’s given us and are ways we are "made in His image". Of all of creation, we are the ones created in His image. He wants us to reflect His character, to be like Him in the ways we relate to Him to other people, to His creation and caring for this creation He lovingly created for us to enjoy. He wants us to see ourselves in the way He sees us, created out of love , goodness and joy, valuable in His eyes and created for a purpose. He is the source of these abilities; His love flowing through me to make a difference in my/our world. It is humbling and exciting and freeing all at the same time!

His love for me makes me feel beautiful, especially my heart and mind. Reminds me that I should love others as He has loved me. And all need love unconditionally.

It helps me be confident in who I am and it helps me be brave to witness to others. It helps me.feel secure. I hope to image God in a living gentle way. Give grace and mercy, be humble.

What I or other people see as malformations, imperfections or mistakes, I should realize God made me this way for His purpose. This does not mean He likes every choice I make, when I choose to sin, because there is no sin in God.
