The Roles That Divide Us

Hey. Lindsey Nobles here. You might know me as the lady who fumbles her words through IF:Equip and the IF:Local livestreams, the mother of #MaisyAndMolly – my two cute and cuddly dogs, or as that girl Jennie tries to find a suitable mate for via Instagram but the most important thing you need to know about me is that I am “faithful servant” and that I believe it is mission critical that we, as Christians, do a better job of loving one another – so that others will know us as followers of Christ.

I am single and 39. As a child, like many of you, I dreamed of my handsome husband, my destination wedding, and my feisty but kind red-headed children.  Those dreams haven’t come to fruition for me and I have had to grieve them, at least for now. But at the same time, I am living out a life that is more full and adventurous than I could have ever imagined.

Many of you reading this are probably in a different season – maybe you are a new grandmother, a mother who just sent her baby off to school, a twenty-something ready to conquer the world. But I imagine, like me, in some ways – the season you find yourself in is difficult and not quite what you expected or dreamed about. And in other ways – your season is beautiful, rich and unexpected.

My hope is that we, as daughters of Christ, can find our wholeness and identity in Christ and not by our husbands, our influence, or our titles. And that we, as sisters in Christ, can learn to love each other as such, regardless of age and season of life.

That we might see our differences as strengths and realize that we have all that matters in common.

That we might dare to make bold invitations and lean in to the difficult conversations.

That we might affirm and encourage instead of comparing and competing.

That we might have the kind of love that breaks down barriers and overlooks seasons of life.

So if you are willing, gather a handful of women (try to seek out women in different seasons as you) and use these scriptures and conversation cards to guide your discussion around “The Roles That Divide Us.”
