Observation Continued: Philippians 2

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2

Watch Week Three Day Two

Today we will continue to observe Philippians 2. As you read the chapter again today, focus on highlighting the key words and repeated words, comparisons and contrasts, commands, and questions. We have created a downloadable worksheet for you to print and use for your notes. Remember:

– Key words are often repeated through out the text to give the text meaning.

– Comparisons and contrasts help us understand the principles and teachings of the text. Contrasts compare opposite things, such as good and bad. Comparisons highlight similarities by using the word like and as.

– Commands help us understand what God is calling us to do.

– Questions help us dig deeper into the text.

Once you have observed the above elements, make a list of what you learned about a key word and/or person. These lists are here to point us to truths in the text, and they give us insight into major themes and ideas. From your observation of Philippians chapter 2, decide on a major theme for the chapter. Remember, a theme is based on the main idea of the text. Share your Philippians 2 theme with us, either online, in the comments section, on the IF:Gathering app, or with your group.

Be humble and become like Christ, putting others before ourselves and rejoicing instead of complaining as we are the light of the world.
