Today we will humbly approach the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to help us interpret Philippians 4. Remember, we cannot understand the meaning of Scripture without the Holy Spirit’s revelation. We will base our interpretation on the observations we made during the previous two days of this study.
As you interpret Philippians 4, remember the following:
– Consider the context of the passage in light of the book of Philippians and the Bible as a whole.
– Your interpretation should line up with the major themes of the Bible.
– Scripture never contradicts itself.
– Seek out the author’s intention for writing the text.
As we attempt to accurately interpret the Scriptures, let us remember 1 John 2:27: “But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”
Let us pray:
Oh, God, thank you for teaching us. Thank you that your teachings are true. Help us abide in you as we seek to understand the meaning of Philippians 4. Reveal your truth to us.
