Interpretation: Philippians 2

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

John 16:13

Watch Week Three Day Three

Today we will humbly approach the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to help us interpret Philippians 2. Remember, we cannot understand the meaning of Scripture without the Holy Spirit’s revelation. We will base our interpretation on the observations we made during the previous two days of this study. As you interpret Philippians 2, remember the following:

– Consider the context of the passage in light of the book of Philippians and the Bible as a whole.
– Your interpretation should line up with the major themes of the Bible.
– Scripture never contradicts itself.
– Seek out the author’s intention for writing the text.

As we attempt to accurately interpret the Scriptures, let us remember Jesus’ words in John 16:13: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

Then join us in this prayer:

Oh, God, Guide us into all truth, since we cannot discover truth on our own. Show us your word. Reveal to us the meaning of Philippians 2. Give us the eyes to see and the ears to hear.

As believers we are not alone. We are a part of the body of Christ. Together we should put on the mind of Christ, so others will see Him in us! We can learn from one another and we should!
