Week Five: You + God Inventory

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9
Week Five: You + God Inventory Book Cover

This week, we have discussed the necessity of confessing our sin and need for God. When we confess Jesus is Lord, it means we’ve made a decision to reject our lifestyle of sin and accept the life of freedom that God offers. Below, let’s take some time and reflect on what confessing our sin and surrendering to Jesus looks like in our lives.

  1. Is this week’s topic new to you? How do you feel about it?
  2. What sins do you need to bring to God? What could surrender look like in your life?
  3. How do you feel about God right now?
  4. How do you think God feels about you right now?

My sins are so many, so habitual, and so deeply ingrained. I have such difficulty understanding, recounting and making them coherent to myself. I wonder, then how do I come to Jesus with sincerity and ask for his grace and loving forgiveness? Perhaps, it is a sufficient beginning that I ask to have my faith strengthened and that He sees my earnestness? Over time He will guide me towards deeper understanding, love and honesty so I may express and so that I may experience His mercy.

If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just. He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Yep, that’s ALL unrighteousness. So I need to trust that this is true. I will give everything in my life to Jesus. He will take away all the stuff we have committed. Jesus loves us that much, enough to take all that junk that everyone who comes to him has done, and present us before God. WOW What an awesome Lord we have.

I must keep working on recognizing, claiming and confessing my sins. It is a habit I must work on and develop daily. Giving up control feels so good. Thank you God for saving me from myself!

I need to continue to ask him to show me my sin so I can confess it and recognize my behavior. This is the struggle for me. I will remember to try to make good choices and know that I WILL fall short of his goodness and grace. He, however, will forgive me, if a ask and I have my faith in that. I will never earn his righteousness. I am so grateful that even still, he loves me and call me his.
