Making a Plan

Making a Plan Book Cover

This week we looked at how time with Jesus changes us. We looked at the way Scripture shows us the pattern for humanity in Christ. Without God’s Word, we cannot know the purpose, objective, and end of sanctification. We’d flail about, guessing which actions and attitudes are of God and which are of the world.

We looked at how prayer leads us in our Scripture reading and understanding and how it brings us into communion with our creator. Prayer and Scripture reading go hand in hand. Scripture helps us know what and how to pray.

Take some time right now to look at your calendar and figure out what you need to do to schedule your daily time with God. Pray and ask God to give you the daily desire and the help for making this happen.

1. What is stopping you from making time to read Scripture and pray?

2. You’ve already started by reading this study! How can you continue this commitment after the six weeks of this study?

God will take whatever offering we have. You may not be able to start with an hour every day, but you can find fifteen minutes. Offer up those fifteen minutes for dedicated prayer and Bible reading, and watch what God does in your life.

Prayer

O God, grant that we may desire you, and desiring you seek you, and seeking you find you, and finding you be satisfied in you forever. Amen.1

What’s stopping me are distractions and busyness. I feel like Martha, however, I want to be like Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and choosing what’s better. The truth is the dishes, laundry, messes, etc. will always be there. Who am I trying to impress? We don’t have people over the house with COVID. Help me Holy Spirit to let go of doing versus being. We were created as human beings because God wants us to be with Him. Lord, make the desire of my heart to be still and delight in Your presence. Amen!

I forget the joy of seeking God first each day, thinking checking emails, texts and FB is more urgent. How crazy! Once I start reading the Word I find I want more and have such peace after.

What’s stopping me as a lack of discipline and thinking that if I can’t do my usual amount of time it’s not enough. On days I sub, I have to be at school pretty early and my time is limited. On those days what I can do is take 15 minutes to spend alone with God before I go to school. I know it will make a big difference in my day and how I respond to all I encounter.

What hampers me is like everyone else said, distractions and busyness. There are so many things that want our attention but I told myself I won’t go to sleep any night without reading my Bible! And I am praying for the desire to do so!
Thank you for this great study!

1. What is stopping you from making time to read Scripture and pray?
Fear of being still. I feel most comfortable when I’m occupied and busy.

2. You’ve already started by reading this study! How can you continue this commitment after the six weeks of this study?
Set my alarm for 15 minutes earlier to spend time in the Word

1. What is stopping you from making time to read Scripture and pray?

I have been getting in the habit of reading Scripture everyday. Before it was sheer lack of discipline but the more time I am spending in the His word the more I am realizing how beneficial to my day & mind it is.

2. You’ve already started by reading this study! How can you continue this commitment after the six weeks of this study?

I am currently doing the 1 year Chronological Bible Plan. I am also planning on continuing to find women’s/couple’s studies to keep me and my husband on track. I also ordered a study bible because I am very interested in understanding the Word on my own without the guidance of a study.

What is stopping me from making time to read scripture and pray ? I do read my bible and pray, I just need to be more diligent about it. Consistent. I need to stop what I’m doing and spend time with God first.

How can I continue commitment after this six week study ? I am in process of reading the whole Bible in a year for the third time. Also have another study picked out after this. I love time with God.

1. What is stopping you from making time to read Scripture and pray?

It is truly a lack of discipline and time management in the mornings. I want to begin my day with scripture and prayer, but I end up waking up, looking at my phone, and then before I know it…my time is gone, and I have to go to work. Perhaps, I should get a dedicated alarm clock that is not my phone, so that it’s not the first thing I touch every single day!

2. You’ve already started by reading this study! How can you continue this commitment after the six weeks of this study?
I can pre-plan what study I will do next, and have it waiting for me. I love analog calendars and planners, so I can go ahead and schedule it in for the Monday after I’m done with this one, and then I will follow it. I think those are two good strategies!

1. I think the inconsistency that come with caring for a toddler sometimes keeps me from time with God. I am praying and getting in the Word more than I have before but when her habits and routines shift, which they do often, it can really throw me off.

2. I’m doing this study with a friend and we are already talking about the next one. I’m also starting to get more involved at my church.
